Fashion in Flight in the heart of Ancient Rome

A fabulous exhibition has just opened in Rome!

‘RARA AVIS: Moda in volo’

A collection of exciting bird inspired haute couture designer dresses and garments are on display from April 24th-July 21st 2024 at the 16th century Farnese Aviaries, in the heart of ancient Rome on the Palatine Hill @the Colosseum Archaeological Park.

Curated by Sofia Gnoli, the exhibition is located in the world’s first botantic garden.

In what seems like the perfect setting for these famous feather inspired one-off designer pieces, this special exhibit shows conceptual contemporary fashion and Italian curation at its best. Displayed against a backdrop of ancient Roman archaeology and beauty.

Don’t miss this exhibition with spectacular brightly coloured gowns from the most famous fashion houses in the world.

Including a winged white swan inspired gown by Maria Grazia Chiuri for Christian Dior, and a black swan inspired outfit by Alexander McQueen. As well as masterpieces by Dolce and Gabbana, in the form of a corset dress embroidered with rooster and pheasant feathers.

A gold dress with ostrich wings designed and signed by Donatella Versace. And more besides, Jean Paul Gaultier and Alessandro Michelle for Gucci.

Inspired not only by birds, fashion and architecture, but also by ‘genius loci’, an ancient Roman concept of a god or spirit that protects a home or a place. A very clever fusion of the old and new, tying the ancient world with todays creative artistic forces and energies.
